"According to both archeologists and Mayan spiritual elders, the Cacao Spirit was one of the most powerful deities in ancient Mayan cosmology. While the ancient Mayans and Aztecs of Southern Mexico and Guatemala are best known, there are contemporary Indigenous cultures in Central and South America who continue cacao use in shamanic ceremony, preferring it to locally available psychedelics. With today’s psychedelic buzz, you may not have heard much of them. Although one of this world’s finest spiritual or shamanic partners, cacao was ignored in the ‘60’s resurgence of medicine plants because it does not act like a psychedelic – it does not take you on its trip, but facilitates your own. I trust the profound opportunities should be obvious, or would become so on sampling some ceremonial grade cacao. As a major overlooked entheogen that many are already deeply connected with, but are not using in these ways… Chocolate is calling… as the magical partner it is." ~ Keith The Cacao Shaman
The Cacao Spirits have spoken! In 2009, I found myself attending an all night fire ceremony on a magical piece of land in Western Massachusetts. On that evening my life changed for ever. My friends Ambe and Moses, now known as Heartblood Cacao, offered us a delicious cacao drink made from ceremonial cacao from Guatemala as a way to begin our transition into sacred space and support us in accessing deeper states of consciousness, presence, and lots of good energy to carry us into the night and towards the sunrise. I was amazed at how good I felt and that this feeling of heart opening presence came from drinking chocolate! I was hooked!
Fast forward two years later, in 2011 I found myself living in and exploring Central America which included a stay at the village of San Marcos in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. This is the home of Keith Wilson, a.k.a. The Cacao Shaman, who is so generous in his knowledge and sharing of cacao for the good of all beings everywhere. Keith is filled with wonderful stories about cacao and how the Cacao Spirit had guided him to Guatemala to help bring back this sacred plant medicine that he considers to be "food for the shift". And shifting we are towards the awareness that we are all one global human family connected with all life, everywhere. "The force that guides the stars, guides you too."
